Detailed Description
Highlights of the Super Record Group Set
Ergopower Levers:
At the heart of the new ErgoPower lever is a new 'clutch like mechanism' which works to give a lighter action and yet still positive feel plus better longevity.
The body of the hood is larger, both in terms of its length but also importantly in width giving more surface area to get rid of hot spots caused by holding the same position for extended periods.
Asymmetric bodies offer more hand positions and allow riders to adopt a more 'pistol like' grip for a more aero, elbows dropped position.
Vari-cushion hoods provide a softer portion for the majority of the hand but still have a firm area for finger tips to maintain control.
Underneath the rubber surface the cable run has been cleaned up to get rid of the bulge that was typical of the old design.
When it comes to the brake lever blade this has change substantially. A higher pivot point it's been designed to make braking on the hoods easier. The lower portion has then been brought nearer the bar to make actuation for smaller hands easier as standard.
For those with larger hands a spacer is available to move the lower portion of the hood slightly further away from the bar to increase space for fingers and provide longer lever travel.
The movement of the up shift levers is given an arcing throw to mimic the movement of the hand better.
Ultra Torque Crankset (Chainset):
The chainrings have been significantly changed to make them compatible with 11-speed and further improve shift performance.
a new inner and outer ring design has been devised to suit the narrower nature of the 5.5mm chain.
more material has been added to the outer ring making it deeper to help compensate for the material removed from it's width.
all new ramps, pins and cut outs have been added on the inside of the outer ring to give four distinct shifting points, these are on opposing quarters of the ring.
a new treatment has been used on the chainrings to give a longer life expectancy.
Super Record has a hollow crank arm and uses Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology (CULT) bearing. Using the same industry leading ceramic bearings the Italian manufacturer has gone to German company INA-FAG to create bearing races made from Cronitect steel for the smoothest, hardest races available. And they've signed a three year exclusivity deal.
Rear Derailleur:
a new front link and parallelogram have been constructed to increase rigidity and precision shifting.
the redesigned carbon front plate gives a 150% increase in torsional rigidity thanks to it's greater size and ability to envelop the two bodies better.
full carbon cage to further reduce weight and improve aesthetics.
the parallelogram changes have the effect of increasing rigidity through tighter tolerances.
larger diameter pulleys for the cage are intended to increase smoothness and reduce vibrations.
lighter pulleys help reduce the overall mass of the derailleur and use ceramic bearings in the jockey wheels
titanium screws and nuts are used to increase longevity, plus the main body is black anodized to mimic the original Super Record.
Front Derailleur:
The inner plate has been redesigned to increase rigidity, it now includes a small protrusion to help collect the chain off the inner ring and deposit it on the outer for a quicker shift.
The two halves of the cage are now shaped like a funnel. This better allows full spread of gears to be used on the cassette without the chain rubbing whilst also giving a more precise shift.
The single cage design is compatible with both compact and standard cranksets.
titanium hardware.
Skeleton Brake Calipers:
Similar in design with 2008 Record calipers.
Campagnolo has brought brake pad manufacturer back in house and now use a new pad for carbon rims. It's said to give equal stopping distance to a conventional aluminum rim in the dry and maintain a linear feel. In the wet the stopping distance is once again similar and the performance comparable to alloy rims with much less grab than alternatives.
The differential brake design is still used to give a balanced feel to front and rear.
Titanium hardware is used throughout.
Cassettes:
Narrower sprockets are used to allow the new cassettes to fit in the same space as the older 10-speed versions to ensure compatibility with existing cassette bodies.
a 'shark's fin' tooth profile has been created to reduce weight and allow the chain to move more swiftly between ratios.
the two top clusters of the cassette, each containing three sprockets and have received an altered support, to better stabilize the narrower sprockets.
Super Record cassettes have the largest six sprockets made from titanium.
the aluminium carriers for the titanium sprockets make them into a single unit which is said to increase torsional stiffness by 180 per cent.
an aluminium lock ring has been introduced to cut weight.
the following ratios will be available in at all three groupset levels. 11-23, 11-25, 12-25, 12-27.
Chain:
The new chain is 5.5 mm in width.
A new steel has been utilized in the creation of the 5.5 chain, this 'super steel' is said to be 20 per cent stronger than the previous C10 version.
All three levels of chain now gain a Ni-PTFE treatment to improve longevity and smooth shift performance whilst reducing noise.
Record / Super Record chains will have hollow pins.
Fastening of the chain is via an updated Ultra-Link which uses a pin to rivet the chain into a continuous length.
Since 9-speed Campagnolo has forged its own chains in the Vicenza factory, this is set to continue with 11-speed.
